Texas Burning: Live From Houston

From Houston's Famed

Rockefeller Hall

In mid-February 2008 the premiere episode of the Texas Burning: Live From Houston will originate from the beautiful and historic Rockefeller Hall.  Known as Rockefeller's from 1979-1997, it reigned as Houston's most beloved music venue for almost 20 years.   Rockefeller Hall was established in 1999 by sisters and native Houstonians Lisa Porter and Cynthia Porter Davis. The building was completely renovated and updated, without altering the gracious, original architecture of the bank building. Rockefeller Hall has hosted over 1,000 private events, including memorable weddings and receptions, lavish galas, birthdays/anniversaries and successful fundraisers.

We send a special thanks to Lisa and Cynthia for preserving the treasured building and allowing us to create some new musical memories.

Patricia Vonne

"Texas Burning" is actually the name of a song from the second Patricia Vonne CD, "Guitars and Castanets."  The San Antonio-native, who now calls Austin home, will serve as "Host" of the evening and will collaborate with the other artists.  She is currently touring Europe in support of her new CD, "Firebird," which is receiving rave reviews.  Fans will be able to see her with full band at Houston's Continental Club on January 25, 2008.

  Sam Baker

Austin's Sam Baker will share duties as "Host" and perform songs from his new CD, "Beautiful World," which debuted at No. 1 on the Euro-Americana Chart, and from his first CD, the critically-acclaimed "Mercy."  Sam leaves for his European tour in late November.  We look forward to a duet with Sam and Kristina Ingham.

fondue monks

Houston's fondue monks, who again took home the Houston Press Music Award for "Best Funk Band" in 2007, will bring their high-energy show to the Rockefeller Hall stage.   As well as performing songs from their three CD releases, they will collaborate with the other artists.

Kristina ingham

Houston-native and Colorado-resident Kristina ingham, who was a "Finalist" in the "Lilith Fair" competition a few years ago, is talented singer/songwriter.  Returning to the Lone Star State from her home in Boulder, Kristina will be a welcome new addition to the Texas music scene.  She will perform songs from her CD "Kristina" and will collaborate with other artists.

Two additional artists will be announced by the end of the year.

Our "Wounded Warriors" and their family members from the Houston area will be invited out for a night of music in their honor.  Tickets will be donated to Operation Homefront and another Houston-area military support organization and they will provide them to troops and their family members.  Operation Homefront, a national non-profit organization that provides emergency support and morale to the U.S. military and the families they leave behind during deployment and the wounded warriors when they return home.  We are working with the Texas Chapter based in San Antonio.

As with the debut presentation of Texas Burning in San Antonio last January, the concert will feature a diverse line-up of some rising stars of the Texas music scene, playing a variety of musical styles. From Latin-flavored Rock and Spanish ballads, to Folk, Rock, R&B and Blues to Americana, fans of “Texas music,” in all its genres, will be served. Honoring the Bayou City's  great blues heritage, each show will feature a veteran Houston blues player. There are plans for a number of musical collaborations and a “Grand Finale” with everyone sharing the stage.

The audience will be part of a live broadcast and  concert recording in HD 1080i, the high-definition format.  Director/Producer, John Frazier, of “Rollin’ Films” directed the broadcast and recording of last January’s debut Texas Burning show, will also direct the February 2008 concert event.  A DVD of the concert will be produced and targeted for release by Memorial Day 2008.

The Texas Burning: Live from Houston concert will be broadcast live globally on this Texas Burning website via the broadband networks of WhiteBlox, our The Woodlands-based web-cast partner.

Further details will be posted as they become available.
